Knox County Parks

Knox County Park District is dedicated to preserving the region’s beautiful landscapes and is growing by leaps and bounds. Parks offer bridle and mountain bike trails, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. The newest (relatively undiscovered) Knox County park, Honey Run, featuring a wooded four-mile trail and water fall, is only a fifteen-minute drive from the Lodge.

Kokosing Gap Trailkokosing-gap

Just a 15-minute drive from the lodge, Kokosing Gap Trail is a great place to hike or bike. This paved 14–mile trail runs from Mount Vernon to Danville on the former Pennsylvania Railroad right of way and is open year round. Along the trail you’ll encounter a 1940 Alco 0–6–0 locomotive and a 1924 Chesapeake and Ohio caboose.

Mohican Valley

Mohican Valley features Mohican State Park, with its scenic hiking trails, rock formations and waterfalls. Popular activites include hiking, fishing, tubing, canoeing, and mountain biking. Hunters, check out Mohican River Wildlife Area.

Woodbury Wildlife Area

A haven for nature lovers and outdoor sportsmen, this 14,615-acre natural preserve contains a diverse mixture of habitat types. White-tailed deer, squirrels, cottontail rabbits, wild turkey, waterfowl, and ruffed grouse are the primary species of interest. Furbearers including beaver, muskrat, raccoon, opossum, and skunk are present in good numbers. A rich variety of songbirds are present in association with the unique combination of habitat types. Woodbury provides habitats for species of animals not normally encountered in the hills of southeastern Ohio. The Area can be accessed from Route 541, within 15 miles of the Lodge.

Amish Country

amish-buggyThe Lodge is situated in proximity to rural Amish country…horses and buggies and produce and basket stands are a common sight on our roads. Commercial Amish country, with its noteworthy homestyle restaurants and quaint shops, is located in Holmes County, approximately 40 miles from the lodge.

 

Coshocton

Take a trip to the 1800’s with a stroll through Roscoe Village! Enjoy the restored village, with its period artisans, shops, and restaurants. Check out their events schedule for festivals and educational tours.

Visit Dresden, a charming town, the birthplace of Longaberger Baskets, and home of the world’s largest basket, or head to Frazeysburg, where the Longaberger Homestead features tours, activities, shops, and restaurant.

Velvet Ice Cream

See how Velvet Ice Cream works their magic by visiting Ye Old Mill, in Utica, just 14 miles from the lodge. After you’ve satisfied your curiosity and your cravings for freshly made ice cream, work off a few calories on their nature trail and visit their 1817 grist mill. Educational tours can be arranged.
